Install Pocketmail

This is a manual-install preview for Synology RTD1296, tested with the server binary on a DS218. Package Center listing, signed distribution and DSM lifecycle qualification are pending.

  1. Download the SPK. Compare its SHA-256 against the published digest.
  2. In DSM open Package Center → Manual Install, select the file, check the publisher and finish the wizard. The service starts with networking disabled until configured.
  3. As a NAS administrator, put your TLS certificate chain in /var/packages/pocketmail/etc/private/cert.pem and its key in key.pem in that same directory. Use a certificate valid for your NAS hostname. Give the package service user access while keeping the key private.
  4. For LAN web and IMAP, create settings.env in that private directory. Replace the example IP with your own NAS address.
SSM_WEB_LISTEN=192.168.1.10:8443
SSM_IMAP_LISTEN=192.168.1.10:9993

Restart Pocketmail in Package Center. Run the following commands from an administrative SSH shell, using the package account and your own email address. Enter passwords when prompted.

cd /var/packages/pocketmail
sudo -u pocketmail env SSM_DATA_DIR="$PWD/var/store" target/bin/synology-mail-server account add mailadmin
sudo -u pocketmail env SSM_DATA_DIR="$PWD/var/store" target/bin/synology-mail-server account admin mailadmin on

Open https://YOUR-NAS:8443/accounts, sign in as mailadmin, create a mailbox and add its receiving address. IMAP clients use the NAS hostname, port 9993, implicit TLS and the mailbox password.

Connect mail delivery

Use a Cloudflare Email Worker to queue incoming mail, or a Postfix host as your MX. Each requires its own domain and transport configuration. For public webmail publish only the mailbox listener through your tunnel. Keep the admin listener on your LAN.
